A New Chapter
Truth Bomb: I’ve had this domain for over 15 years and haven’t done much with it. For a while lived a completely out-of-date and never updated blog for which I never truly had a vision for. Yes, I consistently update my page on KTU.com with fun studies and local stories that I talk about on-air and I guess I could have re-posted them here, but that didn’t feel quite right.
Last year, I’d say my life changed in a big way. It actually started off I’d say in September/October of 2018 when I found myself on dating apps for the first time in my life. A handful of terrible dates later, I bonded with a few of my co-workers over some of these very laughable experiences. Some knew the pain and disappointment, and others had other things going on in their own lives. We had talked about starting a podcast but had no idea and/or direction… until it just clicked. THIS, was it.
If Astra and I had to deal with online weirdos, chances were — other people had as well. Wes, is our say-it-like-it-is male perspective who’s happily in a relationship. And then Danielle Dellilo came along. Oh boy, you’ll have to just listen. Tales Over Cocktails gained momentum like I never thought it would. Soon I would be taking you all along on my journey as I met my true love, Dr. Nebraska (as he’s known as on the pod.)
I love my radio show more than anything, but there’s only so many opportunities to talk as we’re a music-focused station… so for those who want it: Here’s my life, out in the open.
People ask me when I knew I wanted to pursue a career in radio. I was 9 or 10. I loved music, was painfully shy and dreamed of a way to express myself and to connect with people. It was either radio personality, a circus performer, singer or figure skater. (I’ve dabbled in all the others too, but those are chapters all of their own!
When I was 17, right out of high school and after basically stalking my local radio station, I was offered the opportunity for an internship and that kicked off my career — in the summer of 1999. My first on-air shift was in September of 2000. That’s 20 freaking years ago! What the hell?
I’m 20 years in, but I feel more young-hearted and comfortable in my skin as I ever have (after making about a bazillion mistakes!) What are mistakes though, unless they’ve led you to where you are right now?
Oh – and with plenty of tea to spill!
Eric, why are you an angel from Heaven?! Thank you for supporting all my shenanigans, no matter how weird. I’m so glad to be weird by your side, and to love all the fur babies!
I created this blog as a space to expand my relationship with you. For this to be a place of sharing stories, ideas and even some nonsense. Sound familiar? It’s basically just like the podcast (but in webpage form!) When we started earning support from our fabulous listeners, I learned what an amazing tool Tales Over Cocktails is to be able to reach out even further and to expand above and beyond what goes on in between the songs I play for you everyday. They all work together and I hope to continue to share with you engaging content.
