Northern Lights Could Be Visible In NY This Weekend

How cool is this? My friend Joanna brought it to my attention that the Northern Lights may be visible in New York tomorrow!

From SILive:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued a G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm alert for Saturday.

The range and intensity of the northern lights, which are typically only visible in areas of high latitudes (like the North Pole), have increased this week because the sun set off an explosion.

The only catch is that we’ll have to move further from the city and light pollution if we’re even going to have a shot to view. Also, conditions will have to be clear.

Some tips from Newsweek:

Because the northern lights occur above the clouds, check the weather forecast in your area before going out. And head as far from the light pollution of cities as you can. Visibility can partly come down to chance—it’s easier to see the aurora during a new moon, as the shine of a full moon can render the aurora invisible.

The Canadian Space Agency also recommends watching the aurora closely, as it can move and dance rapidly without warning. And cast your gaze in all directions, not just the Northern Hemisphere, to enjoy the full effect.

Catching Up With Flight Time & Zeus Of The Harlem Globetrotters

Only a few people really know how I developed a relationship with The Harlem Globetrotters, making their visit each year one of the most anticipated ones for me.

About 5 years ago, my friend, Cubby, from Cubby and Carolina in the Morning was asked to participate and actually PLAY during a Globetrotter game at Madison Square Garden.  The bit was that he would get to practice and play with the opposing team.

When he asked me to come to support him, I thought to my myself: “Heck, I am not missing this for the world!”

Little did I know, there was a surprise in store for me too.

That day I met their super-publicist (seriously, Eric is THE BEST). After Cubby introduced us he asked if I had ever sat court-side at Madison Square Garden. (I hadn’t, duh.)

Right then he offered to upgrade my seats: Score! Now I would get to see Cubby from real close up and wouldn’t miss any of the action.

Spoiler alert: I didn’t miss any of the action, in fact I became part of it:

Whoa, flash back to the past. Look at my hair… haha! Anyway – that was day one of a life-long friendship with my Globies! These guys are the greatest.

If you’ve never been to a game, it’s much more than that… The Harlem Globetrotters are pure entertainment and lucky for us they’re playing a few area shows!
